    Rai Bahadur Pandi Ganga Datt Upreti (Dec. 1, 1834- Aug. 1, 1910) was a gifted thinker and keen observer of people lives and their cultural ethos. He was a profound scholar of Archaeology on the one hand and Folklore on the other. His ethnological and linguistic research was widely acclaimed. On Jan. 1, 1910 Lord Mints, Viceroy and Governor General of India conferred the title of Rai Bahadur to Pt. Ganga Datt Upreti. Some of his better known works are, Percept of this World and the Next, Hill Dialects of the Kumanun Division, and History of Kumaun.
