About the Book :

The study explores through personal interviews with women elected or nominated on panchayat bodies, their views on situations affecting the status and role of women including their active involvement in local affairs. In view of the situation explored, the author makes practical suggestions of interest to voluntary and governments based organisations with a view to promoting the development of women both at the grassroots and administrative levels of action.

About Author :

Hazel D Lima had had considerable experience in working with a cross section of women through varied service organisations mostly in urban areas. It was therefore of interest to her to establish contact with the rural sector through her study on women members on panchayat bodies in the districts areas of Maharashtra. Dr. D. Lima did her post graduate studies in social work at the College of Social Work, Nimala Niketan and later, obtained a doctorate in Social Work at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Bombay. While engaged at present in education for Social work at the College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan, Bombay, she has participated in several national and international concerned about the situation of women an the promotion of their development. Currently Dr. Hazel D. Lima Principal, College of Social Work (affiliated to Bombay University), Nirmala Niketan, Bombay.
