This book gives a brief summary of the management of industrial and socio-economic information already introduced or being planned by the Union Government. It then proceeds to cover data bank for industrial planning and also standardisation of commodity codes of industrial information as examples of information planning. Thereafter, the book narrates three elucidative frameworks for a national information system relating to technology management, industry and the social sciences, The book ends by giving a round up on the use of the computer as a tool for information management in particular and for socio economic control in general Dr. Banerjees book would be useful as a course book for training programmes both foundational and professional organised by government and for those involved in management development.


About Author :

Utpal K. Banerjee took his honours degree in Pure Physics (1955) from the University of Calcutta and his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, UK (1972) where he was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship. After serving for 17 years in the Ministries of Defence, Industry and Finance, Dr. Banerjee worked with Tata Steel as Chief of Management Services; the Administrative Staff College of India as Director of Computer Division; Electronics India as its Senior Executive Director; and finally, All India Management Association as its Director General. He has also considerable experience of teaching at the IITs, IIMs Jawaharlal Nehru University, International Management Institute, FORE School of Management, and Management Development Institute. Apart from many research papers, Dr. Banerjee has 15 books to his credit.
