About Author :
A.K. Lal is a Sociologist. He started his career from A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna. He held positions of eminence and contributed impressively on various themes of sociological interest. As Head, Political Science Division he conducted important studies on shifting locus of power in Bihar. His book "Politics of Poverty" received widespread appreciations. Prof. Lal has also been a Senior Fellow at G.B. Pant Social Science Institute, Allahabad. He was a Senior Fellow of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi. His areas of interest include study of the weaker sections especially the Scheduled Castes, changing contours of rural India, role of third sector initiatives in addressal of deficits of development. Prof. Lal has authored/edited many important books. His research articles have found inclusion in professional journals.
