Land systems, reforms and development of tribals is an absorbing subject to which this book is devoted and tires to do justice in a humble way. Opening with a general introduction exposing conceptual and theoretical aspects of land tenure, the book throws light on historical dimension of land systems and reforms in tribal areas. Administration of tribal area sub plan projects and systems of panchayati raj organistion for tribal development are also dealt with. The book discusses land reform measures, alienation, and record of rights and related issues. It is followed by a fairly narrative accounts of change derived from indepth interviews with the officials and non officials giving factual and perceptual data on dynamics of land reforms, forests land and forest, exploitation and indebtedness. The book reveals salient features of socio economic development, educational situation, communications and migration, occupational and cultural changes including morality and health. An elaborate presentation of summary findings recommendations and suggestions are given at the end, followed by six appendices furnishing supplementary information on vital aspects of the study of tribal development.

About Author :

Harshad R. Trivedi was born (1923) in the village of Hariana in the Jamnagar District of Gujarat State (India). His student life was spent in Baroda where his family migrated during his childhood. He received Ph. D. Degree in 1955 from the M.S. University of Baroda, Department of Sociology under Prof. M. N. Srinivas. Subsequently, be worked among the Dubla Halpati and Naika tribes of South Gujarat for about a year in the Tribal Research Unit of Gujarat Research Society of Bombay.
