The aim of this volume is (a) to analyse the nature of tourism, (b) to highlight the issues involved, and (c) to evolve a healthy relationship between the environmental factors and tourism. Further the study aims to bring out the potentialities of the region which may help in further improvement. Special emphasis has been given to the environmental parameters and trekking. This book is aimed to serve a dual purpose: (a) to provide information to the tourists, and (b) to suggest way and means for the development of tourist, in the region. This region has a great potentialities if more attention is given for the improvement of the amenities. This volume would be useful for tourists, travel ers, researchers in tourism, tourist managers and the like.
About Author :
S.K. Singh is presently Head of the Centre for Panchayati Raj at National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad. He is working in the area of Panchayati Raj for two decades and contributed immensely by studying and analysing various facets of rural local government. During his stay in the State Finance Commission Division at the Institute, he was closely associated with the first generation of State Finance Commissions constituted by the state governments and helped them in their tasks. He was involved in a large study on Panchayati Raj Finances, sponsored by the Eleventh Finance Commission, Government of India, covering twenty states of the country. He has authored three books on Panchayati Raj and published more than sixty research papers in national and international journals of repute. This book is his latest academic work on the State Panchayat fiscal relations, which is less explored area, on the basis of empirical research study.
Prithvish Nag, (b. 1951), M.Sc. (Gold Medalist), Ph.D., is the Director of the National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He has been the President of the Indian National Cartographic Association, Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centre, Institute of Indian Geographers, Indian Institute of Geomorphologists, Professor S.P. Chatterjee Memorial Foundation and Indian Geographical Foundation. At the international level, he was the Chairman of the International Cartographic Association (ICA), Commission on Population Cartography, UN/PCGIAP Committee on Institutional Strengthening for Asia and the Pacific, International Steering Committee on Global Mapping (ISCGM), Working Group on Data Standardization, and Full Member of the International Geographical Union (IGU), Commission on Population Geography, and Member, Editorial Board, International Journal on Geographical Information System. Dr. Nag was the Visiting Member of the Staff of the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. He is an author and editor of over 35 books and 110 research papers. His well known books are Geography of India and Digital Remote Sensing. Dr. Nag was UN Consultant in Cartography in the Sultanate of Oman and the Surveyor General of India.
