The Situational Analysis Repot on Children's Television prepared on the request of UNICEF has brought out a critical review about educational television. The Book provides a set of recommendations to improve the quality of children's television in India. Written jointly by television producer, media manager, television engineer and communication researcher, the authors emphasized on the team-mode of television production involving experts from various disciplines for quality and meaningful children's television. This book argues for dedicated children's programme and communication research as an essential component of production process. Twenty percent transmission time toward children's programmes both for and about children is recommended. The book has reference and reading material for students and practitioners.

About Author :

Binod C. Agrawal (Ph.D. Anthropology, 1970, University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA) is a well-known International Communication Research expert. He has a reputation of being innovative in research methods and techniques, institution building, management and teaching leadership. Founder Director of several institutions and a university. Earlier he worked for over two decades and pioneered use of qualitative methods for communication research during the world famous Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE), 1975-76 and led an interdisciplinary SITE social research team of over 100 social scientists. Author of two dozen books and several dozen articles in national and International Journals and continues to publish. He is currently the Mentor of Media Research Centre at School of Communication, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal.

Kiran S. Karnik,  currently Chief Operating Officer and Vice-President, Discovery channel in India. After graduation form Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, joined technology management team Indian Space Research organization, where he was Director, Development and Educational Communication Unit at Ahmedabad. He played a key role in the design, planning and implementation of SITE.

C. Lal, currently, Group Director in the area of Digital Communication in Space Applications Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad. Holds his Masters degree in Elections and Telecommunications from Allahabad University. He has been responsible for development of a number of satellite communication related technologies and led the team of engineers responsible for hardware development of SITE.
