About the Book :

This book makes an in-depth study of complex relationship between the physical, economic and social structure of hill areas, with special reference to Pauri Garhwal district. Exploring the agricultural, horticultural, industrial and other potentialities of the region, it analyses the processes of regional development, in terms of growth promoting and growth retarding factors and the levels of development. The book further evaluates the nature and extent of the money order flows as well as out migration, and examines their impact on the socio-economic condition of the people. Finally, it works out a spatial development strategy for integrated development of the hill areas.


About Author :

G.L. Dobhal (b. 1936) was a Senior Reader in Economics in Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi since 1970 and retired in 2001. Earlier, he served as a Lecturer in Economics in Shambhu Dayal (Post-graduate) College, Ghaziabad under Meerut University, Meerut. Dr. Dobhal was awarded M.Phil and Ph.D. by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His field of specialisation has been regional development and planning. He takes keen interest in the problems of development of the hill areas and has contributed articles in leading journals.
