About the Book :

This book attempts to address the various issues pertaining to environmental issues in potable water in rural areas in the state of Tamil Nadu. Discerning the rural water supply to understand the pattern of water use, it analyses the cost aspects, factors influencing water use, distance travelled, time spent and organizing and availing the services. It also tries to study the environmental dimensions of drinking water at village level with respect to depletion of natural resources, degradation of water quality, and the vulnerability of women and children to degradation of environment. An alternative method of calculating tariff for rural water supply.

About Author :

M. Ravichandran is Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Management, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli. He received research training in Environmental Economics under the supervision of Prof. M.V. Nadkarni, former professor of Ecological Economics unit, ISEC, Bangalore and the former Vice-Chancellor of Gulburga University, Karnataka. Dr. Ravichandran is a Fulbrighter, recipient of the Fulbright Award for Indo-American Environmental Leadership Program (IAELP) and visited the Western Michigan University, USA during September-October 2004. He has several publications of research articles to his credit. And he undertook three major and two minor research projects on various economic aspects of environment.

S. Boopathi is Lecturer, Department of Economics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He received his doctoral degree from the same university Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli. He rendered assistance to Prof. Haruka Yanagisawa, Institute of Oriental Culture, University of Tokyo in completing his research project. Dr. Boopathi is well trained in computer applications to statistical analysis. He offers a course in Environmental Economics at the postgraduate and M. Phil. Level in Bharathiar University. He has published a number of research papers in referred journals.
