The papers in this set of two volumes, presented at a national seminar, organized by the Department of Rural Industries and Management, Gandhigram Rural Institute, provide a deep insight into the problems and management of small scale industries in India and try to find out ways and means for their promotion. Volume One, while dealing with the problems of SSIs, discusses availability and source of raw materials, inventory, production process and problems relating to marketing, advertisement, sales promotion, technology and new economic policy. Volume Two, takes a close look at the management of small scale industries based on agriculture, minerals, textile, forest, polymer and chemicals. It also emphasizes on training for the executives in the SSIs and development of managerial skills for the rural entrepreneurs.


About Author :

M. Soundarapandian is Professor of Rural Industries and Management and Head of the Department of Rural Industries and Management, Gandhigram Rural Institute Deemed University, Gandhigram. He did his post graduation in Economics, Business Administration and Education at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and later he obtained a Doctorate in Economics from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. He has published 117 Articles in various National and International Journals and in the edited books to his credit. He has also published 24 books in various field of Rural Industries and Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship Development. He has completed 25 years of teaching experience at Post Graduate Level. Dr. M. Soundarapandian has conducted 17 minor and major research projects with the financial assistance of UGC, ICSSR, Ministry of Rural Development, BGVS, New Delhi and State Resource Centre for Non-formal Education, Chennai. Under the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) many skill development training programmes are conducted for the promotion of Self-Help Groups in Tamil Nadu and he also completed an action project on Entrepreneurship Development in Tsunami affected area of 'Tamil Nadu' funded by International Labour Organisation (ILO), Geneva. Under his guidance and supervision 15 candidates got the Ph.D Degree and 61 candidates got the M.Phil degree. He has organized 18 National Level Seminars, Workshops and Refresher Courses for college teachers. He is national level consultant of Rural Industrialization and Entrepreneurship Development. His areas of interest include Economic Reforms, Public Distribution System and Rural Entrepreneurship. He has visited many foreign countries for presenting papers in the International Conferences.
