About the Book :

This book examines the various aspects of rural life in India, with special reference to the state of Uttar Pradesh, providing the context in terms of time and space. Presenting 'lived in' experiences of village life through ten propositions, it provides the author's autobiographical note on rural ingredients and exposures. Highlighting inter-relations between the individuals and the society, it analyses the role of lineage, clan and caste as units in cooperative and conflicting situations, as well as the intermediary, institutions between the nation state and the village. Also, it addresses the key issues concerning development, ecology, gender and values, educational growth and social justice. The book will be great of use for researchers, policy makers and development workers.
