About the Book :

This hook deals with one of the less researched areas in rural marketing in India. With the growing importance of infrastructure planning and the concern of the government towards provision of amenities to backward areas and communities, the analysis of behaviour pattern of various communities and village types invites attention. The dispersed nature of the distribution of rural population in settlements that are too small to warrant development of infrastructure adds to the necessity of understanding the travel behaviour of rural population, in order to guide locational policies. The author in this volume deals with the spatial behaviour in rural marketing an issue that is directly related with locational policies of market centres. The analysis is based on the data collected from nearly 30,000 households in Tumkur District of Karnalaka, It is perhaps the first attempt in India with such detailed analysis of spatial behaviour of various sections of rural population at different localional situations. The theoretical formulations and the empirical results will be of great value to geographers, researchers and administrators interested in rural development and rural markets.
