About the Book :

To study the problems and prospects of women in the changing rural social and political system is the need of today system. Because women consist of 48.9 per cent of the population and after all governmental and non-governmental efforts their position is not improving equally to men. Panchayati Raj Institutions opened a vast opportunity for the development and progress of rural women, especially 50 per cent reservation through Bihar Panchayati Raj Act, 2006 had made village women and society to rethink their role in political and social field. The rural women in Bihar are subjected to discrimination, operation, subordination and exploitation. Through the institutions of Panchayati Raj they can prove themselves strong in the society and these types of operation can be removed. This book is an effort to become an example and guideline for their problems and prospects.

About Author :

Minni Thakur is presently working as a Reader & Head of Department of Political Science in R.N.A.R. College, Samastipur, Bihar. She is also serving as a counsellor in Post Graduate and Undergraduate courses in IGNOU. Being a social activist she has keen interest in women problems and she is coordinating Women Development Career Course of U.G.C. in her department. She has attended and presented papers in two dozen national and international seminars and conferences of interdisciplinary subjects and her many works on women empowerment and political science have been published in national and international journals. She has got control over the role of women in PRI and had organized a national conference on the topic. She is an expert in Panchayati Raj Institution and women studies. She had recently completed minor research project on Political Role of Women and a book has been published by her on Social, Political and Economic Ideas of Raja Ram Mohan Roy also.
