About the Book :

The book consists of essays written by eminent academicians in honour of Dr. K.V. Sundaram. The focus of the essays is on wide range of issues that have been close to Dr. Sundaram. The development debate is an on-going one but by and large the issues have remained the same in spite of more than sixty years of Independence. The essays focus on livelihood issues and employment generation, promoting gender equality, ensuring a clean environment, promoting participatory approach to development and much more. The scholars have dealt on various themes, analysed them in the context of the emerging scenario and given a new dimension to the development debate. The essays are well written and thought provoking. The book will be useful to policy makers, researchers, students and development administrators.


About Author :


Sudesh Nangia is currently UGC-Emeritus Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has been Consultant to several International Bodies. She has beem President of National Association of Geographers India (NAGI); and Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP). She has been a Member of the Commission on Population and Environment of the IUSSP and International Geographical Union.

Mrityunjay Mohan Jha received his Masters in Geography, M.Phil and Ph.D. in food security from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has five books and about a dozen research papers to his credit. He has worked with national level institutes, reputed organizations and Consulting Groups. He is providing consultancy in the areas of resettlement, rehabilitation and social development.




Suresh Misra is Chair Professor (Consumer Affairs) and Coordinator, Centre for Consumer Studies at IIPA, New Delhi. He holds his Masters in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Masters in Human Resource Management from Pondicherry University and D.Phil. from Allahabad University. He had his advance training in Corporate Management at AOTS, Japan, TQM at U.K. Civil Service College and in Training Techniques and Methodology from the Thames Valley University, UK. Dr. Misra has authored/edited 20 books and contributed several papers in journals of repute. His major areas of interest include Consumer Welfare, TQM, Public Sector Reforms, Development Administration and Local Governance.

H. Ramachandran in currently Associate Professor at the Institure for Social & Economic CHange, Bangalore. His research interests are in development studies, transportaion and environmental problems on which he has contibuted a number of papers. The present volume is an extension of one of his earlier publications, Village Clusters and Rural Development.
