About the Book :

The book aims at assessing and analyzing if the type of educational placement integrated and non-integrated produced any significant influence and differences among adolescent blind and sighted students in respect of their self-esteem, adjustment and academic achievement. The interaction pattern and self-perception of blind students at school has been looked into from the socialo constructivest perspective of disability to analyze of experiences of schooling for children with disability are mediated through school practices and processes rather than the physical impairment itself. This work has been undertaken by the author with the view to create an awareness about people with disabilities and raise certain pertinent question concerning perception of blind individuals about themselves and those of the significant other.

About Author :

Ranjita Dawn, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Loreto College, University of Calcutta has received her Doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She is one among the leading scholars working in the area of Disability Studies in India. Her association with various research organizations provided enormous scope to become acquainted with the underlying dynamics associated with research work. It was during her association with organization like Blind Relief Association and National Association for Blind, New Delhi that she discovered her zeal for addressing the cause of people with disabilities. She has authored many technical papers in this field and is working to bring their problems and issues to the forefront. Her experience of being an educationist encourages her at each moment to address the potential problems that people with disabilities come across in their daily lives. Dr. Dawn has been the recipient of various prestigious awards such as Indian Council for Social Science Research Doctoral Fellowship, National Scholarship Award and Dr. Neelu Sanghvi Sancheti Memorial Medal for Graduation.
