This study on economic development is prerequisite to understand the nature and causes of poverty and backwardness in developing countries. About Author :

Mihir Kumar Pal is a Senior lecturer in Economics at the Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal. He received his undergraduate training and Master degree from University of Kalyani. He stood First in the First class in both B.A. (Hons.) and M. A. (Economics) and was awarded Gold medals for the same. After obtaining M. Phil (Economics) degree from University of Calcutta, he got his Ph. D. (Economics) degree from Kalyani University in 1997. Dr. Pal has been teaching Econometrics, Indian Economics and Computers in the Department of Economics at Vidyasagar University since 1996. He has published several articles in reputed journals and has presented papers in national and international conferences. Dr. Pal is currently involved in teaching and research in the field of industrial productivity.

Sebak Kumar Jana is currently Reader at the Department of Economics with Rural Development, Vidyasagar University in West Bengal. Dr. Jana after graduating from Presidency College, Kolkata obtained M.Sc. degree in Economics from University of Calcutta, and then obtained M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Economics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. His area of research includes environmental economics, energy economics, agricultural economics and economics of education. He has published articles in both national and international journals. He is also associated with national and international projects.
