About the Book :
Desertification is a major global threat and over 250 million people are directly affected by it. Due to this, addressing desertification remains a top most priority of the global community. The number of actors involved in Global Environmental Governance (GEG) has increased significantly in recent years. However, the national governments continue to be the nodal points in protecting environment. This book systematically explores on how the UN Convention on Combating Desertification (UNCCD) became the newest link in the loosely connected and an evolving international system for environmental governance. This book also analyzes the efforts made by governments in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in combating desertification within the framework of GEG with reference to UNCCD. It examines both the implementation as well as compliance aspects of UNCCD.
