It contains the contributions from the students, colleagues and admirers of Professor Kayastha from all corners of the country. This volume revolves around the work of Prof. S.L. Kayastha. Here an attempt has been made to expand his work, especially the conceptual development of different environment related issues.
This book has total 24 well researched studies divided in four thematic sections viz Concepts and Issues, Environment, Development & Problems, Regional Issues, and Assessment Mapping & Management.
The first section Concepts and Issues has total five contributions by the eminent scholars of the country. The second section Environment, Development and Problems has total seven chapters dealing with the issues, the third section Regional Issues has total 6 chapters and the fourth section Assessment Mapping and Management has six studies. At the end total 10 Appendices are given which includes the works of Professor S.L. Kayastha.

Prithvish Nag, (b. 1951), M.Sc. (Gold Medalist), Ph.D., is the Director of the National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He has been the President of the Indian National Cartographic Association, Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centre, Institute of Indian Geographers, Indian Institute of Geomorphologists, Professor S.P. Chatterjee Memorial Foundation and Indian Geographical Foundation. At the international level, he was the Chairman of the International Cartographic Association (ICA), Commission on Population Cartography, UN/PCGIAP Committee on Institutional Strengthening for Asia and the Pacific, International Steering Committee on Global Mapping (ISCGM), Working Group on Data Standardization, and Full Member of the International Geographical Union (IGU), Commission on Population Geography, and Member, Editorial Board, International Journal on Geographical Information System. Dr. Nag was the Visiting Member of the Staff of the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. He is an author and editor of over 35 books and 110 research papers. His well known books are Geography of India and Digital Remote Sensing. Dr. Nag was UN Consultant in Cartography in the Sultanate of Oman and the Surveyor General of India.
V.K. Kumra (b. 1954), Reader in Geography, Banaras Hindu University, took his M. Sc. (1975) and Ph. D. (1978) from B.H.U. He has published a number of books and research papers on environmental issues. Dr. Kumra has been recipient of Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship during 1989-90 at the University of Cambridge, U.K.
Jagadish Singh (b. 1952) is a Senior Lecturer in Geography, Banaras Hindu University. Dr. Singh has to his credit about two dozen research papers and four books including a monograph on Upper Damodar Valley. His major fields of interest are Settlement Geography and Environmental Studies. Recently he has been to Japan and U.K. in connection with conferences on Environmental Aspects.
