  • About Abdul Shaban

    Abdul Shaban is Associate Professor at the Centre for Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He has authored the book Mumbai: Political Economy of Crime and Space (Orient Blackswan, 2010), and edited Lives of Muslims in India: Politics, Exclusion and Violence (Routledge, 2012). He has published several papers on development and deprivation in India, and production of ethnic spaces in cities. He has authored state reports on Socio-economic and Educational Status of Muslims in Maharashtra and prepared Multi-sectoral Development Plan for Malegaon Town, for Maharashtra State Minorities Commission, Government of Maharashtra. He has also produced several other reports for Government of Maharashtra, Government of India, the World Bank, and national and international corporate groups. He has been visiting Professor at Department of Geography, University of Paris-7, Diderot, Paris, France; Department of Environmental Studies, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic; International Development Studies, Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic. He has been visiting fellow at London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2008-09 (at Department of Geography and Environment), and 2011-12 (at Cities Programme).
