    Hajira Kumar, Head, Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University), New Delhi has been associated with teaching, research and extension for the last three decades. She is also providing professional and technical assistance to a number of NGOs, Ministries and Departments of Social Work, in other universities. She had been the Honorary Director of Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia for four years. Her contribution in the literature of social-work is note worthy. Besides several articles, she has seven books at her credit such as-Voluntary Action and the Financial Gap (1988), Social Work-An Experience and an Experiment in India (1993), Theories in Social Work Practice (1995), Social Work, Social Development and Sustainable Development (1997), Status of Muslim Women in India (2002), Social Work and Developmental Issues (2005) and Women Empowerment: Issues, Challenges and Strategies-A Source Book (2005).  Muslim women are one of her areas of interest. A book Family Planning among the Muslims is in the press. Her style is simple and interesting. It encourages every reader to develop his own thinking.
