Indira Barua, M.A., Ph.D. (1975) joined as a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University and retired from the services in 2011. During her 25 years of service in the University she was involved in both academic and research activities and was the members of various academic and administrative bodies of the University. After retirement she continued her academic career as a UGC Emeritus Fellow for two years. Her publications include three books and two edited books on North East India covering the colourful tribes of this region. She has published scientific research papers in National and International Journals and her publications were duly recognized by various International bodies and were selected in their special volumes. She had attended seminars and conferences of various countries and was also invited to deliver talks. She supervised several research scholars for Ph.D. Degree and continued her research activities. She is the life member of many professional bodies.
Her research covers broad areas, e.g. ethnographic study, social demography and child care and development, Indigenous knowledge and various social problems.
