  • About K. Gopakumar

    K. Gopakumar is currently the Director of the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) at Cochin, India. An authority on handling, processing and preservation of tropical fish, Dr. Gopakumar took his Masters Degree in Chemistry and later Ph.D. in Biochemistry form the University of Kerala. As the Head of the Fish Processing Technology Division of the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, he played a crucial role in modernising the fish processing industry in India. He has authored more than 125 research publications in various international journals. Dr. Gopakumar has traveled extensively and has chaired many international conferences on fish processing technology. He is currently the working party member of the Indo Pacific Commission on Fish Technology and Marketing (FAO), member of the Committee III/9 of the International Union of nutrition Sciences, Chairman of the Sectional Committee FADC 12 for Fish and Fisheries Products of the Bureau of Indian Standards and Editorial Consultant of the Fish Tech News published by FAO. Recently he was elected as the President of the Society of Fishery Technologists (India). Dr. Gopakumar has contributed status and review to several internationally acclaimed books on fishery technology and is also a member of all national bodies connected with fish processing and laying down standards for Indian Fishery Products.
